Cellular Expert project scope
The primary scope of the project was to create and implement the system for current telecommunication network and its equipment documentation and planning. The objectives were to create an unified Telecommunication Network Information System (NIS), which allows collecting, storing and updating inventory documentation about fiber, copper, wireless networks and various type of equipment in one place, integrating GIS data into Network Information System and providing access to the data for all authorized enterprise users. The most acceptable solution for such system was Telcordia's Network Engineer.
Project was divided into 3 stages:
- Analysis (current data analysis, data collection, GIS analysis, Workflow and performed tasks definition, system sizing, etc)
- Design of the System (Functionality of the client side seats definition, system sizing, current data migration to new database workflow definition)
- Implementation of the System
The system consists of following parts:
- Server (Oracle, ArcSDE & ArcIMS)
- Desktop Clients (Cellular Expert, Network Engineer…)
- Web – based clients
Implemented Network Information System is based on Telcordia Technologies Network Engineer and HNIT Baltic Cellular Expert applications, which are based on ESRI Arc GIS applications; intranet user interface is powered by ESRI ArcIMS server.
Based on implemented system, the client is able to document existing telecommunication network inventory, connections, to relate the inventory with existing documentation, as well as to plan the network for new services.
HNIT-BALTIC has developed and extended the system with additional components:
- Inventory and connections labeling module;
- Synchronization module for database update from related data sources;
- Intranet user interface;
- Multi-hyperlink module, to relate system objects with documentation on file server;
- HNIT Baltic Cellular Expert application for wireless network planning was integrated, which is used for profiling and radio links planning.
The integration of Cellular Expert and Network Engineer has been also implemented during the project. The integrated system allowed using and share common data placed on Cellular Expert and Network Engineer database.
